Bosal opens new plant in Turkey Bosal Group, the global manufacturer of exhaust systems and towbars, has announced the opening of a modern new 19,000 m2 plant in Pelitli near Istanbul, Turkey.
The new € 12 million (c. $ 17 million) facility combines on one site the operations of two previously separate Bosal-Mimaysan plants. It features new manufacturing lines and the latest state-of-the-art equipment for the production of OE and aftermarket exhaust systems, sheet metal and tubing products, and pressure vessels for commercial vehicle braking systems.
A major investment of € 2 million has been made in a new coating line which can deliver powder and KDL coatings. The line includes 8 robots, a KTL tank of 35 tons capacity and a state of the art water treatment system to protect the environment.
The new plant is located close to Istanbul, major transport connections and the manufacturing sites of key customers including Ford, Renault, Hyundai, Mercedes and Isuzu. Approximately 35% of its output will be exported to European and US markets for customers including Ford, General Motors, Robert Bosch and Contitech.
Construction of the all-new plant started in November 2006 and was completed within eight months. Production was quickly and seamlessly switched from the previous sites to the new Pelitli facility in three weeks in early August 2007 without interruption to customer supply. While the previous plants had reached full capacity, the new facility has been built on a 21 acre site, allowing significant space for future expansion.
Ismail Turfanda, managing director of Bosal-Mimaysan, said: “I am very pleased to have combined our facilities to this modern new site that will allow us to realise significant synergies and offer a superior service to our customers. With greater efficiency and productivity, we look forward to driving forward the Bosal business in Turkey.”
Karel Bos, chief executive of Bosal Group, said: “Our new plant in Turkey is part of the latest phase of our commitment to delivering the very best value, quality and service to our customers from world-class facilities. In parallel to this investment in Turkey, we have a number of similar developments under way around the globe to ensure Bosal remains an industry leader in terms of R&D, production and supply.”
The Pelitli plant was designed with special consideration to the natural and working environment. An advanced water treatment system recycles waste water to irrigate the natural habitat around the plant. The building’s design allows natural light into the facility to minimise the energy spent on artificial lighting. And an automatic air filtering system ensures the air is kept clean, which benefits both the production process and the working environment for the employees.
